AN INTERVIEW WITH WINEMAKER, TAYLOR WHELAN
This season brought forth good fruit density and ripe tannins highlighting the true quality of this vintage requiring a gentler approach in the cellar. Our transition to organic practices have resulted in light, fresh flavour profiles in our Pinot grapes sourced from three acres in Block 2 and five acres in Block 4.
My top pick of the season is our Syrah from Haynes Creek, a site situated on south-west facing slopes in South Okanagan. This cellar-worthy wine is 100% wild fermented with a chunk of whole bunch, highlighting a distinct tannin profile with a mineral mouthfeel.
It is the fresh acidity and fruit flavour profile that rounds out this wine. I wanted the balance of this Rosé to finish crisp and dry, perfectly suitable for 35 degree weather, insead of having something sweet in the sweltering sun. This vintage stays consistent with previous vintages highlighting a uniquely known CedarCreek citrus profile.
“The mushroom flavour profile is a perfect match for Pinot Noir making our spring release of Pinot Noir and the harvesting of Morels here in the Valley just so perfectly timed. I love wild mushrooms tossed in pasta or on a pizza.”

SILT & STONE
The Silt & Stone Experience explores the wines and styles of CedarCreek in a warm and intimate setting.
Chardonnay can be a winemaker’s playground in the sense that there are so many different styles to lean into. This Chardonnay is wild fermented and aged in French oak for 10 months. The fruit is picked from 30-year-old Chardonnay from the South Okanagan. These vines have deep roots that deliver fruit with real complexity and intensity of flavour so I am careful in my winemaking to ensure the fruit remains center stage.
We recently caught up with Winemaker Taylor to dive deeper into the land, learning more about the scarcity of Okanagan soil, bestowing a sense of place in our terroir-driven wines.
